On April 24, Silverlake Conservation, a conservation firm specializing in the treatment of sculptures and architectural materials, stripped the existing coating from the Peacock Fountain sculpture and applied hot wax to it. This process will help stop the corrosion the sculpture was experiencing and will protect the piece from further deterioration. Next, they
will work on the interior part of the fountain and will begin with repair to any cracks or imperfections that are found.
Exterior fountain tiles that are damaged will also be repaired and a coat of sealant will be applied to provide waterproofing. If everything goes smoothly, the restoration work will be completed by the end of May. The fountain will remain off until all repairs have been completed.
