The James Bond movie that Sound & Vision magazine ranks as the best Blu-ray Disc release so far in its July 8 issue -- "Casino Royale" -- will be coming back this fall from Sony as one of the first major titles to get a special edition Blu-ray re-release.

And MGM/Fox is releasing the first-ever high-definition versions of six of the most notable 007 movies starring Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan on on Oct. 21. The collection includes the very first movie, the 1962 "Dr. No," Moore's first 007 movie in 1973 "Live and Let Die" and his best movie in 1981, "For Your Eyes Only"; Brosnan's last Bond movie in 2002 "Die Another Day"; and two other Connery classics, "From Russia With Love" and "Thunderball." All have been digitally restored through the state-of-the-art Lowry frame-by-frame process and will be priced at $34.98 each or $89.98 for each of two volumes of three-movie collections. (MGM/Fox is also releasing an elaborate two-disc special edition of the original 1967 spoof version of "Casino Royale" on Oct. 21, but only on DVD, not Blu-ray).

All this 007 activity is, of course, tied to the highly anticipated November theatrical release of the new James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig, "Quantum of Solace," for which a movie coupon will be included in each Blu-ray movie.

Each title has hours of elaborate retrospective documentaries and bonus features from the recent previous DVD releases but the primary enticement this time will be seeing the pristine restorations of this biggest and longest-running series in cinema history in Blu-ray high-definitiion.
