We are greatly honored to have this opportunity to nominate Ms. Kerry King for the Edyth May Sliffe Award. Never before have we been blessed with such a truly magnificent teacher like Ms. King to guide us down the path towards success. From the classroom to outside, Ms. King is always willing to contribute for the betterment of the students. During class, she expresses her unwavering love of teaching, which proves great for both the mood of the classroom and the motivation in the students. Especially in her Calculus BC classes, each and every one of us feels prepared for the oncoming AP test all because of her flawless and experienced teaching style in which every student learns not for adequacy, but rather for excellence. Her method of developing our math skills through practice problems is particularly effective, and she is always open to questions and can answer them in a way that everyone can understand. Her devotion also carries outside of class time, since she can always be seen in her room, before school, after school, patiently helping out the confused students who seek clarifications. This phenomenal work ethic that she embodies has inspired us to work harder and has developed us into worthy and talented mathematicians. Additionally, her dedication to our school’s math team is unparalleled. Leading our school to more and more success every year, she has transformed our school’s math program from a paltry insignificance to a perennial powerhouse in all of her local competitions, capturing victories throughout. Our biggest gains are seen in the AMC 12, where we rarely before scored so high. Her encouragement, her leadership, her guidance makes all of us eager and willing to show up every meeting to learn more and hone our problem solving abilities. Particularly, her passion spreads to the team members, actively engaging in activities and problem sets that involve not only the older and more experienced students, but also the younger and less experienced students. Not only that, over the last two years, she has developed many of us into potential USAMO caliber mathematicians; this year with three members of our team, barely missing the cutoff and one of us actually making it. Always supporting us in every math event, she truly exemplifies the ideal math coach. Ms. King’s devotion to us has clearly resulted in our astonishing growth, and we hope that through this nomination, we can repay her back for all that she has given us. In nominating her for the award, we are expressing our utmost gratitude and appreciation. |
