The following is a sample of emergency calls responded to during the designated week:
Sunday, October 12:
* At 5:46 a. m., Engine 105 responded to a reported brush fire in Little Tujunga Canyon in Los Angeles County. Engine 105 was one of five Engine Companies from Area C that formed Strike Team 1205 A. Engine 105 performed fire attack operations, mop-up, and structure protection at the 2,000 acre wind driven brush fire that destroyed five structures. No firefighter injuries were reported.
Monday, October 13
* At 8:15 a. m., Engine 106, Battalion 105 with units from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a reported traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle on the Eastbound 210 Freeway at Fifth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a single vehicle that had left the freeway and rolled down the embankment landing near the Santa Clara frontage road with the driver trapped inside. Fire personnel using the “Jaws of Life” extricated the patient from the vehicle, treated the patient for multiple traumatic injuries, and transported the patient to an area emergency room for further evaluation and treatment.
* At 3:08 p. m., OES 343 along with four other OES Fire Engines formed Strike Team 1800 A at Fire Station 105. OES 1800 A and crews departed Station 105 en-route to the Sesnon Incident in the Porter Ranch area of Los Angeles County. Fire personnel will perform direct fire attack operations as well as structure protection during there deployment. This deployment marks Arcadia OES 343 first assignment.
Tuesday, October 14
* At 6:27 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a trauma emergency in the 1200 block of Ninth Avenue. Fire personnel treated a male patient that had severe trauma to the palm and pinkie finger of his left hand from a power tool accident. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
* At 11:37 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a person in distress in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel found an infant locked in a parked vehicle. Fire crews utilized vehicle entry techniques to open the car door. The infant was removed and evaluated on scene. No transportation was necessary.
Thursday, October 16
* At 8:42 a.m., Engine 106 responded on a public assist call in the 600 block of Cortez Road. Animal control had requested assistance in removing a large deceased Great Dane from the location and into the animal control vehicle. Engine 106 crew along with animal control utilized a salvage cover to remove the animal from the residence.
* At 8:50 p.m., OES Engine 343 returned from a four-day strike team deployment. OES 343 was dispatched Monday October 13 at 3:00 pm as part of Strike Team 1800 A, was sent to the Sesnon Incident in the Porter Ranch area of the City of Los Angeles. OES Engine 343 crew performed structure protection on the west flank of the fire and overhauled the area that they were assigned to, preventing the potential for re-ignition. OES Engine 343 was released from the incident at 7:00 p.m. and returned home at 8:50 p.m. This was the first response for this vehicle since it had been provided to our city from the Office of Emergency Services.
Friday, October 17
* At 9:59 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision involving a bicycle and an auto in the 100 block of Las Tunas. The bicyclist struck the auto when the auto pulled out in front of him. The bicyclist stated he had leg pain but he refused any treatment and did not want to go to a hospital for further treatment.
Saturday, October 18
* At 11:58 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a patient experiencing difficulty breathing in the 600 block of Michillinda. Fire personnel used Advanced Life Support measures to diagnose and treat the patient. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Training
During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 520 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Public Education
During the reporting period the Arcadia Fire Department conducted three public education demonstrations at local pre-schools and two fire station tours.
